Well, the April 6 Enduro marks the first official enduro for the "new" #47 RealRide Racing RX7. Tim and Co-drivers Matt McFadden and Jim Mihal brought the battle scarred car home a respectable 3rd in SU.
The race started with an unexpected puncture of the Right Rear tire on the first lap. Tim brought the car into the pits where we had to run the entire race on front rain tires and rear slicks (Because of our tight budget, we had no spare slicks). The tire change involved having to remove the front wheels and switching one of them to the rear, then replacing both fronts with rains. This stop cost us about 5-7 laps. Then a fuel spill during one of the later pit stops penalized us another 5 laps, placing us very far into the field. Despite this, lap times remained low with Matt turning a spectacular 2:00:00 at one point! He even managed to unlap the car at one point by passing the 600hp Porsche 911 Turbo GT2 of Vision Motorsports. Jim Mihal ran consistently fast lap times and truly showed his speed and talent.
Special thanks go out to:
- Day Wireless for the radios.
- Pennyweb for keeping us afloat.
- James "Jimmy" Spencer for sacrificing his own racing to be the test driver.
- All the crew members who helped out in the pits.
- Dwain at Vision Motorsports for the fuel.
- Joe Jordan for the fuel rig and bad jokes!
- The guys in the GTI Cup for loaning us 5 gallons of fuel.
- TRS Racing for the advice.
- And finally, NASA for putting on a great show!
* On a sad note: The weekend was capped off by the tragic news that Tim's mother and James' wife, Robin Spencer, had passed away unexpectedly. Everybody at RealRide Racing is saddened by this but like all close families, we will all pull through this together.
